The following Links lead to data extracted from the 1850/1860/1870 Census Microfilm of Fayette and Somerset Counties, Pennsylvania. I did not copy the whole census. For the most part, these pages pertain to Lindeman, Nicholson, Bittner, Shipley, Seibert, Henry and several spelling variants thereof. I included the Soldier's Orphan School and the Somerset County Poor House because I thought there might be general interest in them. Since this data is public, feel free to use it as you wish. Some fields require a word of explanation.
Page numbers are a relative thing in the census! Bold numbers (400) are the stamped page numbers on every other page of the census book. The plain numbers are the written numbers used by the enumerator within the township or borough. The plain numbers repeat from town to town. The bold ones do not. Milford Twp, Upper Turkeyfoot, Lower Turkeyfoot each have a page "1" but the Somerset County Book has only one page "1". The reason I didn't use one system throughout is: I wasn't as smart when I started as I am now!
On the 1850 and 1860 Censuses, "Race" was left blank for white, so I left it blank, as well. Where the enumerator entered "Sex" as "F" for a Robert, I place a question mark but didn't change the entry (who knows!?)
I'm as bored typing this
as you are reading it! Any questions, e-mail me. Any Lindemans, Nicholsons, Millers, Parkers e-mail me! Click here: John Dougan
If (and that's a BIG IF) I did this right, clicking on the links below will lead to the first of several census pages for that year. You should then be able to "Next" "Previous" and "Home" your way though the thing. If not, you know what to do....e-mail me!
